  • Artist Sumer Erek made a series of art interventions in the memory of slain Turkish Cypriot student Muharrem Ozdemir on the 40th anniversary of his death.

  • Ozdemir was killed in what was a political murder on December 7, 1977 in Istanbul, where he was attending the Mimar Sinan University.

  • Artwork produced from Ozdemir’s unfinished portrait by Ulmen Aygin and his last photograph were used as visuals in the intervention.

  • He was one of two students, who were kidnapped and shot by members of a Turkish far-right group, in the run up to the September 12, 1980 coup.
